According to Buddhist lineage texts, practitioners use prayer wheels to accumulate wisdom, merit (good karma), and purify negativities (bad karma). The Buddhas and Bodhisattvas created these skillful means (upaya) to help people progress toward enlightenment.
Many Buddhists turn prayer wheels daily—sometimes for hours. This practice builds merit, benefits all beings, and purifies karma through intentional action. Prayer wheels also serve as a powerful meditation tool
